Specialist translation implies that the translator is familiar with the relevant professional terminology and the language environment into which the text is being transferred. Specialized texts and documentation such as technical descriptions, feasibility studies, expert opinions, or financial agreements may require more time, as well as a translator specialized in the given field. Large projects involve hiring expert consultants and engineers, which can affect the translation price.
The price list for translation services of language pairs or combinations of languages depends on their representation in the given region and their market value. For example, in Serbia, English, German, Russian, French, Italian, Slovenian, and Croatian are the most popular languages, so it is a fact that there are more translators for these languages, and therefore the translation prices are lower. Translation of some less common language pairs (from Spanish into Japanese, for example) would certainly require a much higher fee, so be prepared for that.
The translation price is calculated per word. What needs to be defined is whether the source text or the translated text will be calculated. When it comes to larger projects, clients generally ask for a quote in terms of the total price of the translation, and in that case we do the calculation based on the original documentation and that’s how we negotiate the work.
A certified translation by a court interpreter is usually required in official affairs abroad, i.e. when submitting a document in translation to an official institution. A certified translation is required for documents to be submitted to one of the official bodies, a state authority, or a company. A court interpreter is also required for weddings with foreign nationals, as well as for some notary procedures.
In order to translate a document and meet our quality requirements (at the agency, we insist on this), it takes time. If you need a translation urgently, we may have to work overtime and ask our translators to postpone the work they are already engaged in, or even work during weekends or holidays. All of these factors can affect the cost of a translation, but some common percentages are an additional 10-30% on top of the standard translation cost according to the applicable price list for translation services.
If your work is to be published in an eminent professional magazine or the media, it is possible to request additional proofreading by a native speaker.
